It’s been a quite a while since drivers have had to concern themselves with schoolchildren making the trek back to school for in-classroom teaching.
While this return to classes may be a relief to over-taxed parents, the flip side of this is that the roads will now be populated with kids and crossing guards in the morning and afternoon during busy commute hours.
Local law enforcement plans to put special emphasis on patrols near school zones to make sure drivers comply with posted speed limits and obey crossing guards. So, not only is it safer to go slowly, but it could end up being less expensive, too
Not all these pedestrians are kids, either. Some are moms or dads who are accompanying their child to school, so please do your part by slowing down and staying alert. Whether or not there are crossing guards present, pedestrians always have the right-of-way.
In addition to the added foot traffic, days are getting shorter and foggy mornings are common in September, making matters more treacherous.
If it rains, streets will be slick, making quick stops difficult.
