She started at SAV-ON in May, only a short time before the pandemic forced lots of changes to the way SAV-ON Insurance does business, but Maygen Ochoa has adjusted and grown with the challenges it poses.

Having never worked in insurance before, Maygen found out about the Customer Service Representative job opening at SAV-ON from a family friend. She has always found helping people rewarding so she thought insurance would be a good fit for her. She was right.

Helping others is a passion of hers. She spent all four years of high school volunteering with Special Education kids who attended her high school. She would help them with math, reading and other subjects, then attend dances and other activities with them; even assisting on their soccer team her junior year.

She enjoys working in customer service, working with clients and updating their contact information, inputting it into SAV-ON’s data base, and helping the agents by following up with insurance companies, updating the information and doing whatever is necessary to keep things running smoothly.

“I really like working with clients; it’s rewarding to help others get the insurance they need,” Maygen says. “Since we have so many different insurance companies to work with, we can usually get them really good coverage at a reasonable cost.”

Working to maintain a COVID-free environment is a lot of work. With a desk at the Des Moines headquarters, she is the first one a customer comes in contact with when they enter the office. She wears a mask at all times and has a plastic guard on her desk to separate her from the customer. When they’re done, she wipes down everything from the pen they used to the doorknob they grabbed when they left.

Maygen lives with her mother and sister on Puyallup’s South Hill. Single, she has a number of pets to keep her company; a bulldog named ‘Bruce’, a rabbit named ‘Thumper’, and a white kitten named ‘Enzo’.

Born and raised in Kent, she embraced her parents’ love of hockey. But, surprisingly, she doesn’t follow the local team but is a fan of The Detroit Red Wings. When it comes to baseball, the same thing holds true; instead of the Mariners, she cheers for the Detroit Tigers.

Her parents are originally from Reno, Nevada, so she and her family have lots of relatives who still reside there. One of her favorite trips is going with her family down to Reno, where most of her extended family still live, to visit with them.

Working at SAV-ON has been rewarding for her. She is embarking on a new career, learning a new business, and having the opportunity to assist people with their insurance needs.

SAV-ON Insurance is a good fit for her. It is also very family-oriented, with the entire ‘team’ pulling together to help each other and the customer.

Describing herself as a caring person, Maygen is continuing her commitment to caring for and helping others. She enjoys it so much she even talks about eventually becoming a full-fledged insurance agent.

Time will tell, but in the meantime, she’s taking full advantage of the opportunity. And SAV-ON’s customers are the beneficiaries.
