Broad Form Insurance in Washington —Coverage That Follows the Driver
If you drive more than one vehicle and only need to insure the driver, broad form may be the least expensive way to stay legal in Washington. Sav-On has been writing it since long before most agencies would quote it.

What broad form insurance actually is.
A broad form policy is a named operator policy. Instead of insuring a specific vehicle, it follows the named driver — so it can extend to most vehicles that person drives, rather than one car on a title.
That makes it attractive to drivers who own several older vehicles, borrow cars regularly, or are trying to satisfy Washington's financial responsibility requirement at the lowest possible cost.
Be clear about the trade-off. Broad form is typically liability only. It generally does not pay to repair your own vehicle, and it usually covers only the named driver. If you have a loan or lease, your lender will require more.
- Coverage follows the driver, not one specific vehicle
- Often the lowest-cost path to meeting state requirements
- Useful if you own multiple older vehicles
- Can be paired with an SR-22 filing when one is required
Who broad form is not for:
- Drivers with a car loan or lease
- Households where more than one person drives
- Anyone who needs their own vehicle repaired
- Newer or higher-value vehicles
What's Covered — and What Isn't
Injury You Cause to Others
Bodily injury liability pays medical costs and legal defense when you are at fault in an accident that injures someone else.
Damage to Others' Property
Property damage liability pays to repair the other driver's vehicle, or a fence, wall or building you hit.
An SR-22 Filing
If DOL requires a certificate of financial responsibility, it can be filed alongside a broad form policy. We handle the filing.
Your Own Vehicle
Broad form is liability only. There is no collision or comprehensive, so repairs to your own car come out of your pocket.
Anyone Else Who Drives
Coverage generally applies only to the named operator. A spouse, child or friend borrowing the car is typically not covered.
A Financed or Leased Vehicle
Lenders require comprehensive and collision on the specific vehicle. Broad form will not satisfy a loan or lease.
