Tax day, the deadline for filing your federal income taxes, is April 18th this year (unless you will be applying for an extension), and it brings dread to most people each year. But, if you need help with your taxes there is help available for free or at a low cost.

We have compiled a list of local or virtual tax services:

United Way of King County

File your taxes for free!

United Way of King County’s Free Tax Preparation Campaign will run from Wednesday, February 2 to Thursday, April 21. IRS-certified volunteers will be available virtually and in-person at multiple locations across King County to offer you free tax preparation assistance.

In-Person Assistance

Tax clients and guests over 12 years old must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Masking is required on-site at all times. All in-person tax preparers will be fully vaccinated.

Free Online Tax Help

• You can get online help with your taxes from AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Online Tax Assistance
• You can get free help with your taxes on USA.gov
• For those who made $73,000 or less, use Free File on the IRS website to file your taxes
• MyFreeTaxes.com is a partnership between H&R Block and the United Way to help you complete and file simple tax returns
• Military personnel and their families can get help from the Armed Forces Tax Council or MilTax

Need an Extension?

• If you need to file after April 18, 2022, you can request an extension from the IRS website.
