Ladybug House: Providing Care and Support to Seriously Ill Children and Their Families

SAV-ON Insurance was looking for a worthy charity to partner with for their Referral Rewards program. We have found it in Ladybug House, a recently formed nonprofit with the goal of helping families cope with the heartbreaking task of providing care to a child or adolescent with a life-threatening illness.

This Seattle-based nonprofit was founded by a longtime RN who spent 30+ years in pediatric oncology. Working night shifts at the bedsides of hundreds of children, providing end-of-life care to many of them, Suzanne Gwynn witnessed the need for this care firsthand. Children with life-threatening illnesses and their families deserve a positive, supportive space outside of the hospital to comfortably gather, take a break, and have fun.

Ladybug House is working to build and operate Washington State’s first free-standing, family-centered palliative care and hospice home for children, adolescents, and young adults with life-threatening illnesses. Ladybug House will give exhausted families the opportunity to gather comfortably outside of the traditional hospital setting, offering physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual support all under one roof, as well as end-of-life care and ongoing bereavement support if needed.

While working towards this long-term goal, this charity operates primarily through its family outreach program, Ladybug Love. This program offers children and their families experiences of comfort, kindness, and connection delivered through community donations and support such as transportation, lodging, nourishment, celebratory events, special gifts, and entertainment outings.
